It all started with a small workshop established in Annaberg-Buchholz, East Germany, in 1946 that made handmade bespoke glasses using buffalo horn & Italian acetate.
East German goods weren’t considered flashy, but they lasted long, which made them sustainable and eco-friendly.
Matthias Haase, an eyewear craftsman, with over 30 years of experience and Arjun Sagar, a sustainable business developer, wanted to revive the handmade bespoke sustainable eyewear of that era, the mid 1900s.
The workshop was renamed COCO LENI in 2015 by Matthias Haase and Arjun Sagar.
The eyeglasses COCOLENI make are made to last a lifetime, using traditional skills, long lasting riveted German hinges and natural materials. We’re so confident in our product that we offer you a 10 year guarantee*.
Today, we employ over 40 artisans who sculpt these eyewear by hand, preserving the German heritage and craftsmanship traditions of that era.
The skilful hands and seasoned eyes of the COCO LENI eyewear artisan, create a personal work of art in each pair.

Our genuine buffalo horn eyewear is created using only ethically sourced material.
